Why choose Kilfrost for heat transfer, anti‑icing and deicing applications?
A pioneer in deicing fluids
Developing revolutionary fluids is Kilfrost’s hallmark. As a renowned chemical manufacturer, it’s what our business was built on.
The aircraft deicing fluids we developed in the 1930s are still industry-leading trusted products. What’s more, they provided a foundation for us to develop our range of fluids to not only prevent ice forming on aircraft wings, but to also support the rail industry by deicing train tracks, third rails and pantograph arms.
High-performance heat transfer fluids
Our chemical expertise is extensive. Following our work in aviation and rail, we developed our first generation of heat transfer fluids based on MEG and MPG, Cooltrans. This range has provided the basis for heat transfer fluids for many years due to the well-established properties they offer the end-user.
Not one to rest on our laurels, we then created a range of fluids that address the toxicity and efficiency dilemma in heat transfer fluids.
We applied our rheology expertise to create a solution that is low in viscosity – and remains so in low temperatures – but is also non-toxic and classified as food safe. The Kilfrost GEO and ALV product ranges offer an alternative to traditional mono ethylene glycol (MEG) and mono propylene glycol (MPG) based fluids, as they are a safe and non-toxic alternative to MPG and rival the low viscosity of MEG. By using Kilfrost GEO and ALV products, customers can benefit from an increase in pump and heat transfer efficiency, which delivers energy and cost savings.
This ALV fluid range has combined the superior efficiency of MEG performance with the inherent safety of MPG, offering the best of both in a single product.
When creating our fluids, safety, performance and the environment are always front of mind which is why we’re proud that these products are bio-derived. This means that if they were to find a way into an ecosystem, they wouldn’t be harmful to the environment or wildlife.
Product types
Do you work in an industry that requires fast-acting and long-lasting anti-icing or deicing fluids? With more than 90 years of expertise behind them, our fluids keep the rail and aviation industries moving.
Extensive technical expertise
Our team operates from a dedicated facility in Haltwhistle, Northumberland, UK, where insight, ingenuity and innovation in chemical manufacturing are at the heart of what we deliver.
Our core team of scientists work year-round on R&D and perform fluid analysis tests for customers. State-of-the-art equipment, including a purpose-built facility for testing aircraft fluid, supports our team’s work.
For many customers, the timing and quantity of fluid delivered can be mission critical. Our dedicated and experienced customer service operatives work closely with customers to ensure the quick and efficient delivery of fluid, and they ensure the smooth running of our operations – especially during winter months, where our deicing and anti-icing fluids are in high demand.
Global reach, local trust
We work with a carefully chosen network of distributors across the globe, so you get the products you need with the quality, and support you deserve. To find a distributor local to you, get in touch.
