Ensuring railways keep moving even in the coldest conditions

Train services are required to run as efficiently as possible, to ensure passengers are transported to their destinations safely and freight is delivered with optimum efficiency. These constant operational needs are tested to the limit by winter weather. Frost, ice or snow can all disrupt rolling stock, railway tracks and stations and seriously affect rail timetables. To maintain operational effectiveness in winter conditions, it is necessary to remove ice and snow and if appropriate, protect against further icing.

Through our heritage of developing the first deicing fluid for use on aircraft, we have been at the forefront of deicing and anti-icing fluid for decades. And we have applied that knowledge to keep the rail industry moving.

Kilfrost is verified with the RISQS-Railway Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme. The RISQS outlines supplier pre-qualified to provided products and service throughout the GB rail industry.

Anti-icing and deicing fluids

We have developed a range of products to be used specifically throughout the rail industry; for track, rolling stock and infrastructure.

Kilfrost Rail and Kilfrost Rail Plus are our main products and have several applications across tracks, third rails and pantograph arms. A well-established product, Kilfrost Rail has been used within the industry for over two decades and is tried, tested and trusted. Its applications include brake gear, third rail, points and switches. Rail Plus is the Kilfrost product with the highest thickening power for anti-icing situations. The fluid is used on the pantograph and electrified third rails used in urban rail and mass transit systems.

Our rail solutions

Our rail solutions include a wide range of deicer, anti-icer and products that do both, as well as a windscreen wash. Check out our full range below.
