Kilfrost Rail

Industry-leading deicing and anti-icing protection for rail systems

Kilfrost Rail is a well-established, industry-trusted product that has been successfully used for more than two decades. This thickened propylene glycol fluid is specially formulated for both deicing and anti-icing applications. Its viscous formulation provides long-lasting protection against frost and freezing precipitation on rail surfaces. Primarily, Kilfrost Rail is applied to electrified third rails in metro and urban rail systems. It is also effective on the exposed lower parts of rolling stock, including brake callipers and associated rigging, to prevent ice build-up.In addition to its anti-icing capabilities, Kilfrost Rail actively protects track components and metal infrastructure from corrosion and is suitable for use on points and switches, ensuring their reliable operation during winter.

The application of Kilfrost Rail

Brake gear

Apply Kilfrost Rail fluid to brake callipers and rigging by pressure spraying. Do not overspray onto brake discs and wheel treads.

Third rail

Dispense 20-30 millilitres of Kilfrost Rail to the rail head per metre. The dispense rate or frequency of application may need to be varied, depending on the weather conditions.

Points and switches

Apply Kilfrost Rail for points and switches by spraying. Apply the material to the nip between the switch rails and stock rails or to crossing flangeways. Do not apply the material to the rail head.

For best results apply the material at the onset of ice and snow as a preventative measure. Where deicing has taken place, take care to ensure that the slide chairs are kept adequately lubricated. Kilfrost Rail is not a lubricant and thereby does not remove, interact with or affect the lubricant. The dispense rate or frequency of application may vary depending on the severity of the weather conditions.
