Heritage and expertise

Kilfrost Aircraft Deicing Fluid has been providing protection from ice and frost for the global aviation markets for over 80 years, Kilfrost is the original pioneer and still a proud global leader. Our world-renowned R&D team employs on-site cold chambers, wind tunnels, and the very best technical expertise to evaluate, test and create our new products.

Aviation

Leading the way throughout the years

We developed some of the first ever Type I, Type II, and Type IV ADF (Aircraft Deicing Fluids). We successfully – and repeatedly – increased the holdover time of our products and the protection they gave to customers across the length and the breadth of the world. We pushed the boundaries with innovative partnerships – from the TKS joint venture which saw a breakthrough in protection for the general aviator, to our work in the 2000s with DuPont Tate & Lyle BioProducts and the development of the first ever bio-derived glycol.

Aviation

Tried and trusted

Now our ongoing investment in the very latest weather-predicting technology means that we are also able to maintain exceptional levels of supply and be responsive to our clients as they need us. All of which is why we are the preferred, and trusted supplier to most of the world’s leading airports and ground handling crews, as well as executive jets, flight schools and private aircraft owners.

Aviation

With you every step of the way

As the original pioneers of de and anti-icing solutions for the aviation sector, few understand fluid production storage and application like us. This is why we're perfectly placed to support you with all aspects of standard sample testing and Good Practice Guides along with workshops. We can advise whether your fluid is in specification or not and can recommend corrections or replacement actions.

We provide a service whereby you can send samples into our dedicated laboratory and a member of our team will assess them for you. All testing meets SAE standards, and we can conduct tests of tanks, equipment, and storage facilities at the start of the winter season, as well as at your preferred mid-season check point.

Kilfrost also manufacture a large range of Rail Anti-Icing Solutions and Ground Deicing Fluids.

Type 1 Deicing

Type I deicing fluids are manufactured and qualified to AMS 1424 specifications.

They are primarily used for deicing and do not offer any significant anti-icing holdover protection. Because of this Type I fluids are commonly used as part of a two-step de-and anti-icing procedure when the final application of a Type II or Type IV fluid provides the required extra protection.

Kilfrost offers two different Type I fluid options.

Aviation

Type II De and Anti-Icing

Type II de and anti-icing fluids are manufactured and qualified to AMS 1428 specifications.

Type II fluids can be used for deicing purposes but (unlike Type I fluids) also offer extended anti-icing holdover protection and can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Unheated and undiluted for anti-icing

  • Diluted with water and heated for de and anti-icing as a one step process

  • Diluted with water and heated as the deicing stage in a two-step process, when used with the unheated and undiluted fluid

The Type II fluid Kilfrost offers is ABC-K Plus. This offers an extended holdover time especially in snow conditions.

Aviation

Type IV De and Anti-Icing

Type IV de and anti-icing fluids are manufactured and qualified to AMS 1428 specifications. Type IV fluids offer maximum anti-icing holdover protection but can also be used for deicing purposes.

Similar to Type II fluids, Type IV fluids can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Unheated and undiluted for anti-icing

  • Diluted with water and heated for de and anti-icing as a one step process

  • Diluted with water and heated as the deicing stage in a two-step process, when used with the unheated and undiluted fluid as step two.

The Type IV fluid Kilfrost offers is ABC-S Plus. This offers an extended holdover time especially in snow conditions.
